Step two: Having a bench seat in your shower!

home02

A long shower to get going or to turn it off can be made just a little bit nicer by the addition of a shower seat! A place to sit to lather up and a place for all those bottles and shaving stuff! Notice in the picture that thisHot mopped shower pan has a bench seat at the rear, and this shower had a rain head w/ a hand held at the seat, nice! It was a standard 30″ x 60″ configuation which was added a 12″ deep x 18″ high seat. Which left plenty of floor area and no loss of elbow room!

When adding a bench seat a few things need to be done to make sure the seat can be hot mopped correctly. requires that the seat face and top are solid wood. This is easily done by using plywood over the framing members, 1/2 ” minimum. It is important that were the face of the seat meets the wall that solid backing running the whole length of the seat height plus an additional 8″. Were the seat top meets the wall make sure you have backing between the studs just as you have around the rest of your shower pan.

Corner seats, “L” benches, shaving steps, stadium, round, ornate, are just a few styles you can adapt to your shower…size of your shower pans plays a big part in how much seat you can put in but a small corner seat in a 3′ x 3′ adds a nice touch.

Your shower seat adds that needed protection at a critical area of your shower and is sometimes a forgotten area that needs to be properly prepared to insure the integerty of your Hot mopped shower pan!
